Sprout's Inn, located in Quincy, Illinois, was founded in 1940 by Cecil McClean.  Cecil, a Quincy native, left home at the age of 14 to pursue his dream of being a jockey.  Due to his small stature and athletic talent, Cecil became affectionately known as “Sprout” by his fellow jockeys.

In 1940, “Sprout” and his wife Evelyn founded Sprout’s Tavern, which was located at 1029 Broadway in Quincy, Illinois. In 1948, Evelyn and “Sprout” sold Sprout’s Tavern and built a new building at the current location at 2814 North 12th Street.

Today Sprout’s is managed by Cecil’s son, Patrick McClean, and his daughter, Jenny Wiemelt.  Jenny has been working at Sprout’s for 23 years now, keeping the family legacy alive.  The objective of the business today is still what her grandparents, Cecil and Evelyn started over 60 years ago-a comfortable, friendly, family-like place where people may meet for good food in a casual atmosphere.  Sprout’s is known for their great service, homemade food, and affordable prices.   They cook everything from scratch and do not take shortcuts, a practice which sets them apart from big chain restaurants and keeps customers coming back for more.  Sprout’s serves about 5,000 meals per week, and because of their large volume, they are able to keep their prices low.

Sprout’s serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner 7 days a week.

Through the years, Sprout’s has undergone many expansions.  The original one-room restaurant now has two dining rooms, 2 banquet rooms, an expanded kitchen, and a beautiful outdoor patio.  The outdoor patio, the newest of the expansions, is called “Evelyn’s Garden” after Evelyn McClean.

Sprout’s banquet rooms are used primarily for wedding rehearsal dinners, anniversary and birthday parties, and business luncheons.  Any private party is welcome to reserve the banquet rooms.  Guests using a banquet room have a choice of a family style menu, buffet style meal, a prime rib dinner, or, parties of less than 20 may order straight off the menu.  With any of these choices you are sure to receive a delicious, made-from-scratch meal.

Sprout’s is famous for their homemade pies, homemade fried chicken, and hand-cut lattice fries.  Daily specials as well as luncheon specials are available to customers at a low cost. The soup, salad, and homemade pie lunch combination is a customer favorite.  Daily specials range from homemade meat loaf to chop suey.

A loyal Kohl Wholesale customer from day one, Jenny says she has come to know and rely on her sales representative, Tony, and her delivery driver, Darryl.  She says Kohl Wholesale has worked with them very well over the years and they always make sure to take care of them.  The convenience, personal service and quality of the food she receives is why she chooses Kohl Wholesale over any other distributor.
